The Project GREEEN Funding Cycle
Project GREEEN funds research projects under three program areas in response to plant commodity group priorities: basic research, applied research/demonstration and Extension/education/demonstration on an annual basis.
Projects follow a cycle that begins with each plant commodity group identifying industry priorities that need immediate attention. Researchers draft their proposals in a cooperative response to these industry needs. A review panel consisting of researchers, Extension representatives and commodity representatives meet to decide which proposals should be funded and present their recommendations to the Directors' Action Team (DAT). The DAT then uses these recommendations to make final funding decisions. The main criteria used to evaluate the proposals for funding are their relationship to the Project GREEEN mission and Michigan plant agriculture priorities, scientific soundness and appropriateness of methodology, potential leverage of funds, the feasibility of completing the objectives within the proposed time frame, mechanisms to deliver information to Michigan's plant agriculture industries, the multidisciplinary and integrated nature of the proposal, and the extent of partnering with and potential impact on Michigan plant agriculture industries.
