Projects follow a cycle that begins with each plant commodity group identifying industry priorities that need immediate attention. Researchers draft their proposals in a cooperative response to these industry needs.
A review panel consisting of researchers, Extension representatives and commodity representatives meet to decide which proposals should be funded and present their recommendations to the Directors' Action Team (DAT). The DAT then uses these recommendations to make final funding decisions.
The main criteria used to evaluate the proposals for funding are:
-
Relationship to the Project GREEEN mission and Michigan plant agriculture priorities
-
Scientific soundness and appropriateness of methodology
-
Leverage of funds
-
Feasibility of completing the objectives within the proposed time frame
-
Investigator qualifications
-
Mechanisms to deliver information to Michigan's plant agriculture industries
-
Multidisciplinary and integrated nature of the proposal
-
Partnering with and potential impact on Michigan plant agriculture industries.
